Journal
The Journal is the record of your closed trades: paper trades land in it on their own, you can log a trade by hand, and you can import a broker tradebook CSV. The Stats view turns those entries into win rate, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown, an equity curve, a calendar and breakdowns.
Entry sources
| Badge | Source | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| P | Paper | Materialised when a paper position closes. Trade fields are locked; only notes, setup, tags, rating and mistakes can be edited. |
| M | Manual | Logged with Manual trade. Every field is yours to edit or delete. |
| Z | Zerodha import | Created from a Zerodha Console tradebook with Import CSV. Stored as a manual entry tagged zerodha-import, so it can be edited or deleted like one. |
Importing a Zerodha tradebook
- In Zerodha Console open Reports ▸ Tradebook, pick the segment and the date range, and download the CSV.
- In the Journal click Import CSV (the upload icon in the toolbar does the same) and drop the file or choose it.
- Check the preview and click Import N trades.
Only the Zerodha Console tradebook layout is recognised today (columns
symbol, isin, trade_date, exchange, segment, series, trade_type, auction, quantity, price, trade_id, order_id, order_execution_time). Other brokers
and a column mapper are planned.
What the preview shows
Every row of the tradebook is one fill. FutPrint sorts the fills of each instrument by execution time and matches them FIFO into round trips: a trade runs from the fill that opens a position to the fill that brings it back to flat. Scaling in and out stays one trade with average entry and exit prices; selling more than you hold closes one trade and opens the next with the remainder.
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Status | matched — found in FutPrint's symbol master. assumed — an equity that the master does not list; the symbol is built as NAME-EQ, edit it if needed. unmatched — type the FutPrint symbol to import the row. duplicate — every fill of the trade is already in the journal, so it is skipped. overlap — some of its fills are already journalled (a reversal whose other half landed, or a position a later file widened); it stays unticked unless you include it, since the shared fills would then count twice. typed — a symbol you entered. |
| Zerodha symbol / FutPrint symbol | RELIANCE becomes RELIANCE-EQ, NIFTY24JULFUT stays a monthly future, NIFTY24JUL24500CE resolves to that month's last expiry and the weekly NIFTY2470424500CE to 4 July 2024. |
| Gross P&L | Exit minus entry on the matched quantity, before charges. |
| Est. charges | An estimate from FutPrint's charge schedules (brokerage per order, STT or CTT on the sell side, exchange, SEBI, stamp, GST): the exchange's options or futures profile, and the equity intraday profile for shares (a delivery trade's STT differs, so edit the entry if it matters). The journal stores what is sent; it does not compute charges itself. |
| Fills | Fills in the round trip. A * marks a position still open when the file ended; only the closed part is imported. |
The summary strip counts duplicates skipped, unmatched rows, rows the parser could not read and open lots (positions still open at the end of the file). Open lots are not imported; log them by hand once they close, or import a tradebook that covers both the entry and the exit.
Good to know
- Re-importing is safe. Each entry keeps its Zerodha trade ids in a
[zerodha-tradebook]line at the end of its notes. Keep that line; it is what the next import checks to skip duplicates. - Expired contracts. The symbol master keeps expired options and futures
for a retention window. Older contracts show as
unmatched; type the FutPrint symbol (NIFTY26061624500CEstyle, date as YYMMDD) to import them. - Product type is inferred: same-day trips are MIS, multi-day equity is CNC and multi-day derivatives are NRML. Edit it on the entry if yours differed.
- Times in the tradebook are IST; they are stored with that offset.
- Charges in Stats include the estimated option charges, so treat net figures on imported options as approximate until you reconcile them against the contract note.
Stats
Net P&L, win rate, profit factor, expectancy, average win and loss, max drawdown and total charges are computed from the entries in the active range. Below them: the cumulative realized P&L curve, a month calendar (click a day to filter the Trades view and write a day note) and breakdowns by setup, symbol, side, source and hour of day.
